What is Lumbar Stenosis?
Lumbar canal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal, which contains the spinal cord and nerves. This narrowing can exert compression on the spinal cord or on the nerves in the compressed areas, which can be caused by different types of underlying diseases.
Check out a video I recorded talking in detail about back pain.
What causes Lumbar Stenosis?
According to its origin, lumbar stenosis can be divided into two categories. It can be both a primary lumbar stenosis, which means that it has a congenital cause, that is, it arose during the individual's initial development, as well as being a secondary lumbar stenosis, which is one that has been acquired throughout life.
Secondary lumbar stenosis can be caused by several conditions or underlying diseases, including a local infection in the lumbar spine, trauma or a blow to the site, or even a complication of surgeries or procedures involving the spine. However, the most common cause of lumbar stenosis is degenerative, resulting from a slow and progressive process that causes the reduction of the lumbar spinal canal.
